Mayor Sheffield's Executive Orders

EO 2026-01 — Fair Property Tax Assessments (January 31, 2026) Directed the City Assessor to adopt national IAAO standards, publish biennial mass appraisal reports, and increase transparency to ensure Detroit homeowners receive fair and accurate property assessments. 

EO 2026-02 — Office of Neighborhood and Community Safety (February 23, 2026) Created the Office of Neighborhood and Community Safety to lead a public-health approach to violence prevention, intervention, community transformation, and re-entry, supported in part by a $200,000 Hudson-Webber Foundation grant. 

EO 2026-03 — Livable Wage for City Employees (March 9, 2026) Directed a review of all city positions paid below the $21.45/hour Wayne County living wage, with raises taking effect July 2026 for an estimated 900 workers—70% of whom are Detroit residents. 

EO 2026-04 — "Brighten Up the Block" Streetlighting (March 19, 2026) Directed the Detroit Public Lighting Authority to restore mid-block lighting on residential streets, installing at least 3,000 new lights across neighborhoods beginning July 2026. 

EO 2026-05 — Affordable Housing Trust Fund (March 24, 2026) Directed 100% of proceeds from city-owned commercial property sales to the Affordable Housing Trust Fund—up from 40%—more than doubling the city’s annual contribution to about $4 million starting July 2026.
